Last Wednesday, November 25, was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (VAW).
To raise awareness for their cause, Safe and Fair Philippines held the Babaeng BiyaHero Facebook live event hosted by Suzi Abrera where they invited their celebrity champion Maine Mendoza to speak up on issues regarding women Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs.
Maine shared how honored she is to be labeled as the celebrity champion for Safe and Fair Philippines which is also in line with her dedication to help and protect OFWs.
"Siyempre po Miss Suzi (Abrera), being the Babaeng BiyaHero celebrity champion is a big responsibility for me dahil meron po akong tungkulin na tulungang palakasin po 'yung campaign na ito at ipalaganap po 'yung mahahalagang information po na makakatulong sa mga Babaeng BiyaHeroes natin.
"I'm really grateful po kasi pinili ako ng Safe and Fair Philippines to be their celebrity champion for this campaign and I'm also glad and honored to be part of this worthy and timely campaign for the Pinay migrant workers po natin siyempre para mas bigyang lakas pa sila para tumayo po laban sa abuso na pinaglalaban po talaga natin. Lalo na para protektahan po ang kanilang mga sarili.
"And Miss Suzi, may I just say that, this is also in line with my personal advocacy na mag-give back po at magbigay ng inspirasyon at suporta po sa ating mga migrant workers all over the world siyempre.
"Doon po sa pinagdadaanan nilang hirap tsaka 'yung mga pinagdaanan nilang hirap siyempre gusto po nating palakasin 'yung loob nila in many ways," she said.
Maine also said that Eat Bulaga's "Bawal Judgmental" segment has helped open her eyes as well to the plight of migrant Filipina workers since they often feature their stories in the show.
Now that she is a champion for the Babaeng BiyaHero cause, Maine aims to use her platform to raise awareness on the rights of women migrant workers everywhere.
