Videos of a fish vendor and a grilled food seller in Cebu have gone viral on social media after people started pointing out their uncanny resemblance to two Filipino celebrities: Marian Rivera and Senator Robin Padilla.
In a recent episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, the KMJS team interviewed Maribeth Belongilot, who netizens say looks like a “chubbier version” of Marian Rivera.
According to Maribeth, she believes she shares similar facial features with the actress, especially the shape of the face and her fair skin tone.
Since her videos blew up online, Maribeth shared that her fish sales have significantly increased. She also became more motivated to post content regularly on social media.
Meanwhile, Steven Lee Anino, a grilled food vendor, has been compared to Robin Padilla. Steven said he sees the resemblance, too, citing their similar build, hairstyle, facial structure, and clean-shaven look.
Steven said he's flattered by the comparison and enjoys being called “Idol” by people. In fact, the attention has made him feel like a celebrity himself.
Just like Maribeth, Steven has become more inspired to create and upload content ever since his videos went viral.
However, both Maribeth and Steven clarified that the resemblance seen in their videos is often the result of using filters or AI effects on their smartphones. They admitted that these enhancements help them achieve the likeness to their celebrity idols.
Because of this, they offered apologies to Marian and Robin for imitating their looks.
Maribeth explained, "Wala po kaming masamang intensyon sa paggamit ng AI. Yung sa amin lang po is katuwaan lang."
But without the filters, what do Maribeth and Steven really look like?
