Lopez and Culpo are not new to hosting international beauty pageants. Lopez hosted way in 2007 with Vanessa Lachey (Miss Teen USA 1998), while Culpo co-hosted the 68th beauty competition with Vanessa Lachey and Steve Harvey in 2019.
Harvey hosted the competition from 2015, the year he created an iconic moment when the Philippines' very own Pia Wurtzbach took the crown, up until 2019.
Reigning Queen Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was crowned Miss Universe in 2019. However, she was not able to pass the title on to a new successor in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is now the longest-reigning titleholder.
