Maritoni Fernandez reflects on getting her check-up for breast cancer during the pandemic.

“I am a 20-year survivor and you'd think I'm used to the drill by now but every check-up still brings with it a flood of emotions,” penned actress Maritoni Fernandez yesterday, October 6, on Instagram.

The breast cancer survivor posted a photo of herself getting her routine check-up and said she feels a variety of emotions every time she visits the hospital.

“From being anxious heading to the hospital, especially now that it's in the midst of the pandemic, to being grateful and relieved when given the two thumbs up by my dear friend and doctor, Dra Barbara Perez of St. Luke's Breast Center,” she said.

Maritoni also related how thankful she is for her husband, Mon Dayrit, for accompanying her in her scheduled check-up.

“Today I didn't have my @leximalvarez1 to go with me as she is far away studying, but the Lord Jesus blessed me with a wonderful husband who drove me, kept me company, and patiently waited while I had all my tests done. Thank you, @mondayrit for being my rock.

“Thank you Jesus for the all-clear. I am deeply grateful. When it boils down to it, you realize nothing truly matters as much as your health.”

It was in 2011 when Maritoni revealed that she has a lump on her right breast since she gave birth to her child when she was 26. At the time, her OB-gyn told her that she had nothing to worry about.

Years later, the lump was positive for malignancy, and had 40 percent of her right breast removed via lumpectomy.
