Mel Tiangco addresses rumors about insulting international tennis star Alex Eala

Kapuso anchor Mel Tiangco courageously addressed the fake news involving her that had been circulating online, live on national television.

Last Friday night (January 23) on 24 Oras, the veteran star candidly clarified rumors accusing her of insulting Filipino tennis star Alex Eala.

Online posts falsely claimed that the Kapuso broadcaster called Alex “despicable” and “selfish,” allegedly mocking the athlete's efforts and decisions. The fabricated news further alleged that the athlete responded emotionally and harshly to Ms. Mel.

Stating a point, Mel Tiangco was also the anchor who introduced JP Soriano's report on Alex Eala's return to the country for the WTA Philippine Women's Open on January 26. The clarification was made immediately after the news report aired.

Meanwhile, Alex Eala returned to the Philippines last Wednesday evening, January 21. She came home straight from a landmark campaign in the 2026 Australian Open in Melbourne, where she made her official debut in the singles and doubles events.
