Meteorologist-turned-surfer Alvin Pura turned to natural science to explain how a board lost in Hawaii in 2018 was miraculously found in Sarangani, Mindanao two years later.
GMA News and Public Affairs program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) featured the incredible story of Hawaii-based surfer Doug Falter and his favorite surfboard.
Doug lost his surfboard in February 2018 while catching huge swells in Hawaii.
His story went viral when he discovered that his surfboard drifted away for over 8,000 kilometers and is now owned by Giovanne Branzuela, a teacher living in the Philippines.
And while the story seems to be too good to be true, Alvin offered a quick explanation on how this might have come to be through his YouTube channel.
Alvin theorized that Doug's surfboard was carried by the north equatorial current that occurs in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Aside from this, the former weatherman also illustrated other scenarios on why it took the board two years to drift into the waters of Mindanao.
He wrote his explanation, saying, “Ang karagatan ay komplikado. Maraming circulation, eddies at imbalances.
According to Jessica Soho's KMJS feature, Doug agreed for Giovanne to keep his surfboard.
