Fans of the multi-talented artist and creative director Michael V. are counting down the days to the grand premiere of his 2019 debut film titled Family History on Netflix Philippines.
Starting July 30, the family drama movie featuring the life and struggles of couple Alex and May will be available for viewing on the popular streaming platform.
Family History, which premiered on the big screen in July 2019, was well-received by critics and was graded “B” by Cinema Evaluation Board.
Furthermore, the directorial debut of Michael V. received the “Natatanging Pelikulang Pampamilya” special award at the 4th Guild of Educators, Mentors and Students (GEMS) Awards in February 2020.
In an interview with the three-time Asian TV awards Best Comedy Actor (2004-2006), Michael V. shared some of his learnings doing the film and how it helped him to become a better storyteller.
He said, “A storyteller does not rely on dialog alone, especially in filmmaking.
“There are a lot of moments in the movie where you can feel the emotion kahit walang sinasabi 'yung characters. I plan to do a lot more of those in the future.”
Now that the movie will be available to a much wider audience via Netflix Philippines, the actor-director is excited that more people will be touched by the beautiful story of Alex and May, portrayed by highly-respected TV and movie star Dawn Zulueta.
“I'm very happy na magkakaroon na ng chance ang audience na mapanood ang Family History the way it was intended to be watched - full version at saka p'wedeng i-rewind to fully understand the story,” Michael V. explained.
When asked whether he's open to doing a collaboration with Netflix Philippines in a future project, Michael V. said that he's interested in doing another movie with the streaming giant.
“I'd probably do another movie so I can test my theories then proceed with a mini-series for bigger stories and flexibility.”
Family History is a joint production of Mic Test Entertainment, the company founded by Michael V. and his wife Carol Bunagan, and GMA Pictures.
