Last Sunday, on
SOP, Regine Velasquez and Michelle Van Eimeren talked in public, for the first time since
Ogie Alcasid announced his relationship with Regine.
"Gusto ko pong sabihin sa inyong lahat that Michelle and I are okay," Regine began, opening the window for Michelle to join in and be heard by the Filipino public. Regine continued, "We have talked about this matter in private, like responsible adults should."
But because the public will always wonder until they hear the other side of the story, Regine and Michelle allowed for a public phone patch to be heard by everyone. "For the first time in public, sa harap po ninyong lahat,"
Regine introduced Michelle Van Eimeren-Alcasid who immediately asked how Regine was.
For Michelle, she said that she'd rather keep their story private, "Pero gusto malaman ng mga tao na si Regine, family ko 'yun."
She reiterated that she treats Regine like family, and that her relationship with Ogie will never return to what it used to be. She also continued that she had already accepted that there are things that people should just accept. "So for me, kung si Regine ang mahal niya, ako rin katabi niya."
"Parang sister ko (si Regine)," Michelle announced. "So please, humihingi ako sa inyo, please tanggapin (niyo) siya. Huwag (niyo) bigyan siya ng hard time. Mabait (si Regine), mabait (siya) sa akin at sa mga anak ko. Pag (nandito siya), lagi kaming masaya."
Regine thanked her friend, Ogie's former partner in life, saying, "You know how much I appreciate your friendship, 'yung understanding mo, 'yung pagtanggap mo sa akin bilang family. You welcomed me in your home, thank you so much."
To which Michelle replied with, "Alam mo, Regine: habang may buhay ako, may breath ako, welcome ka sa family ko. Kasi ikaw ang family ko. Mahal ka namin."
That should end whatever rumors are left of the real status of the Ogie-Regine relationship. And after the program,
Showbiz Central tracked down the man of the hour, Ogie Alcasid, to get a few words from him.
"I'm speechless, I'm totally speechless," Ogie began with a huge smile.
"Napakabait ni Michelle. Of course I'm very happy."
To his first wife, he said, "'Chelle, I've always known you to be such a kind, kind person. I thank you. And I'm... I'm speechless. Salamat sa'yo, 'Chelle."
