Michelle Dee answered questions about her coming out journey while shooting for two magazine features.

Just in time for Pride Month, the newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee continues to share details about her coming out journey, this time through a 10-minute behind-the-scenes video on her YouTube channel. In the video titled “I JUST CAME OUT AS BISEXUAL! #MMDLoudAndProud | Michelle Marquez Dee,” Michelle shared her thoughts when she first realized she was bisexual, how she feels now that she's out, and her thoughts on being shipped with her famous friends.

On her bisexuality, Michelle shared that she has never felt anything was wrong with it growing up.

“Quite frankly, I didn't have an initial reaction because I've always been surrounded by very strong individuals especially my mom and my dad,” she recalled. “They always raised me to be confident and true to myself. My mom never made me feel like there was anything wrong with the LGBTQ community. She would be the first one to say 'Oh anak, if you have a girlfriend dapat mas maganda sa'yo.'”

Michelle also shared that she feels great now that she has come out, and that she made the move more as a way to empower other people.

“This has been quite the open secret ever since. I've been in the industry for quite some time and my sexuality has been a very open secret with my peers, people I have worked with, and people that have been around me for the longest time,” she said. “Honestly, this is a move to empower people that may feel trapped, may feel like they need that extra boost of confidence.”

Michelle also had a pretty relaxed response to a question about being shipped with her famous friends such as Rhian Ramos .

“If anything, we have nothing but appreciation and love for the LGBT community. We acknowledge that they're such a big part of our story, a big part of our audience,” she explained. “They support us no matter what we do, so for me I always see things with a grateful heart. And I'm being linked with so many beautiful women, people I look up to, notable names in the industry.”

Michelle Dee is the country's second Miss Universe Philippines to come out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, after Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez.

Even before coming out, Michelle was already supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, such as raising funds for LGBTQIA+ organizations. During Pride Month last year, Michelle promoted a special edition T-shirt by the brand COS, which will be donating 100 percent of the profits to specific LGBTQIA+ organizations. In the caption to the post, Michelle asked her followers to check out the shirts that are “in support of the community we all should love.”
