Miss Eco Philippines Kelley Day

As Miss Eco Philippines 2020, Kelley Day joins her first Manila Bay clean-up.

As part of her promotion as Miss Eco Philippines 2019, actress Kelley Day joined the members of Planet Cora, the Philippine Marines, and volunteers in the cleaning of the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA).

On Instagram, she shared how this experience served as an eye-opener for her and the many volunteers who came to save the mismanaged wetland area through a 4-minute video.

She wrote, “The LPPCHEA was once a popular 'refueling spot' to 41 migratory bird species and a happy habitat to other diverse wildlife.

“But as of today, less than a sixth of these birds come to visit because of its uninhabitable conditions.”

Kelley, in plain shirt and jeans, is seen collecting garbage in the hopes of being a good example to fellow Filipinos and provide a cleaner environment to future generations.

“We are doing a cleanup today and if you look over here there's so much trash across the whole island.

“We've been picking up trash since this morning and there are a lot of volunteers who showed up today.

“It's really sad to see all of this trash that's being disposed at the sea,” she tells in front of the camera.

According to the beauty queen, although it's fairly easy to pick up the trash, what lies underneath is the real problem.

Garbage, in all forms, has been embedded in the mud over time making it a struggle to pick up.

Watch the eye-opening video below:

Whether you throw garbage onto the street/beach, or if the waste collection service company disposes your garbage incorrectly...this video, as a microcosm, shows the consequences of littering and single-use plastics. This clean-up event at the LPPCHEA was an eye opener for me, and I just have to share it with you all. If you want to become more eco-conscious, watch this video and learn how you can get your hands dirty in order to give our future generations' hands clean. Just last week, Kelley has already asked her fans' support and explained how she will use her platform in encouraging governmental and educational programs that assist environmental campaigns.

She said, “I believe this knowledge is vital for advancing eco-tourism around the globe.

“To be representing the Philippines in the Miss Eco International stage is such a huge honor and I will carry with me the pride and diligence of my fellow Filipinos who have put their trust in me on this journey.”

Kelley will be representing the country in the Miss Eco International stage come April 11 in Egypt.

She won the title Miss Eco Philippines at the Miss World Philippines competition last September 15, 2019.
