Fresh from competing in the Miss Universe pageant, current reigning Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee just reached an Instagram milestone as her official account finally reached one million followers.
The account reached a million followers today, and after several posts from Michelle recounting her Miss Universe journey, where she finished in the top 10. Her most recent post is an edited photo of her in her Apo Whang-Od-inspired evening gown, where she expressed her desire to come back home to the country as she is already home sick.
Another popular post is one where Michelle explained why she chose to pay tribute to Whang-Od, whom she described as “a true icon and the last of her kind, a symbol of bravery, beauty, and inclusivity."
She wrote that Whang-Od preserved the rich cultural heritage of indigenous tattoo art and has come to symbolize timeless beauty, “coinciding with Miss Universe lifting its age restrictions, championing inclusivity and challenging age stereotypes.”
The said post now has more than 400,000 likes.
Michelle's strong showing in the pageant certainly helped her achieve this Instagram milestone. Aside from ending up in the top 10 of the Miss Universe pageant, Michelle was also named one of three Gold winners of the Voice for Change competition.
Her green gown during the preliminaries also caused a buzz online, with Harper's Bazaar Arabia () naming it as one of the best viral moments from the Miss Universe preliminary round.
Aside from its craftsmanship - it features 400,000 Swarovski crystals - the green gown that Michelle wore during the preliminaries was also a tribute to her mom, former beauty queen Melanie Marquez. Just like her evening gown during the coronation night, this was also designed by Mark Bumgarner.
