More than four months after the explosive premiere of Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan, it is now time to say goodbye. But before we do, let’s take a look on what exactly Zaido has accomplished. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Maurico.
Acting
Aljur Abrenica is happy about the good feedback he has received for his turn as Cervano,
the Red Zaido. But he also admits that he’s not completely satisfied with what he has accomplished -- he says that there’s still room for improvement.
Marky Cielo, on the other hand, is just very happy with getting the chance to play a character as complex as Alexis,
the Green Zaido. “Role ko (kasi) dito, hindi lang iisa. At least naka-experience ako ng maging masama.”
He also adds that getting a breather, literally and figuratively, from the
Zaido costume was a plus. “Maluwag, bawas costume -- at mas kita ‘yung mukha!” And that’s not a statement of vanity, Marky explains that it’s harder to act out an emotion when no one can see your face.
Dennis Trillo, who plays Gallian,
the Blue Zaido, is proud of what his two co-stars have accomplished. “Seryoso sila sa ginagawa nila.”
And he finds their excitement in portraying their roles, and their will to learn, very refreshing. “At makikita mo na nage-enjoy talaga sila sa ginagawa nila.”
“May natututunan ako sa kanya,” Marky adds, saying working with
Dennis Trillo has taught him a lot about dramatic acting. And to cover all bases, Marky also says that his other co-star, Aljur, is a fast learner. In fact, Aljur is the one who gives their last-minute coaching when it comes to fight scenes.
For
Kris Bernal, another showbiz beginner, she admits that she has become more confident when it comes to working with the veterans. She even shares that she was very tense when it came to working with Dennis in the beginning. “Pero ngayon, okay-okay na talaga.”
She admits that working in
Zaido has helped her be
a better actress. “(And) nakatulong rin sa acting skills namin na maging kumportable sa nakakatrabaho namin.”
In Relationships
The working atmosphere on the set of
Zaido, is very laid back. And this proved to be a very good environment for the newer artists to bond with their more mature counterparts.
Being a latter addition to the cast Isabel Granada said she didn’t have any trouble adjusting to the cast. She reveals that this is because of
Ian De Leon’s presence -- with him being one of her closest friends since childhood.
Plus, she adds, “‘yung mga kasama ko, level-headed sila eh.”
Isabel says that though most of them see her as the Isabel Granada from 20 years ago, when it comes to work, her co-stars immediately get serious. And this is where, she thinks, it all boils down to when it comes to their working relationship. “Pero behind the cam, talagang lahat kami nagtatawanan.”
Veteran actor
Tirso Cruz III agrees that having the right people in the mix of actors plays a very crucial part for the success of the show. Working with responsible, but fun, actors takes out the work in work. “Kasi ang hirap ‘yung alam mong trabaho; tapos, because of certain factors, nagiging trabaho talaga ‘yung trabaho -- then it becomes really hard."
“Then you start to push yourself, instead of just letting the character flow in.” Which, according to Tirso, is never a problem at the
Zaido set.
Pauleen Luna, another late addition to the cast, loves the bonding of the people involved in the show. She says, “Actually, what’s good here, not only in
Zaido but in GMA particularly, is that the producers, the executive producers, are very easy to talk to.”
She adds that everyone in the network, and the show, is easy to reach. And there’s even an option of bonding with them. “You’re not workers, you’re friends. That’s what’s very nice with people here in GMA.”
Reaching Goals
“First kong makagawa ng fantasy na ganito,”
Ian de Leon says, reminding iGMA that his first fantasy soap
Super Twins had him as a regular guy, as the father of the heroines. But in
Zaido, he had to step up to become Commander Zion. “Iba ‘yung approach ko sa role ko. And ‘yung sa akin, nanibago ako, nangapa ako nung una. Pero after a few weeks, nagamay ko na ‘yung role ko.”
Paolo Ballesteros thinks he can do any role after
Zaido. He says that he really enjoys doing what he is doing for the show, even though the process of
turning into Ida can be a little tedious. “Masaya tsaka nakakapagod, pero masarap naman.”
“I guess
Zaido is a really good project for us,” Isabel ends.
The show ends its run today, but the memories of the metal heroes will live on. And as the cast goes their separate ways, their separate projects, they all have at least one thing to take away from the
Zaido experience. And all of them can say, “Mission accomplished.”
And in tonight’s episode, they may have already beaten the bad guy but there’s still life to get back to. Will the Zaidos still know how to live normally after they’ve become extraordinary? Tune in to the finale of
Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan tonight, after
24 Oras.
Afterwards, join in the discussion at the
iGMA Forums! People will definitely be talking about the finale, so don’t get left behind.
