After contact with confirmed COVID-19 positive persons in March, Celine decided to go into self-quarantine. She said that she experienced flu-like symptoms on the first three days of her quarantine but later confirmed safe from coronavirus after she tested negative for it.

The MMDA spokesperson said its her responsibility to inform the public about her health status, especially to her staff, who have been suspected of carrying the virus and often have faced discrimination from their own communities.

“I have to assure these people that they are not going to get the virus from me. My staff members are being discriminated and guarded in their own communities because of unverified fear that they are carriers of the virus,” she said.

She also revealed that her personal assistant was reported by his/her neighbors to the barangay office, trying to get rid of the assistant.

“Neighbors of my personal assistant asked their barangay office to take her out of my place and detain her.

“My staff are undergoing difficulties because of me but I can't do anything because these are protocols to ensure the safety of other people in their community,” she added.

Celine also underscored the importance of transparency in this time of crisis.

“In times like this, one of the best contributions is to be honest about your medical condition and your travel history,” she added.

Transparency with regard to travel history has been one of the things that the government asks of the public for the speedy detection and containment of COVID-19.
