Filipinos always step up their game.

Supermodel Monika Sta. Maria is the remaining Filipino contender in the Top 3 of Asia’s Next Top Model after Amanda Chan and Fracheska Lagua were eliminated from the competition.

She told Luanne Dy and Lhar Santiago in a live interview on Unang Hirit that the Filipino attitude makes them stand out.

“Alam mo sa tingin ko ‘yung Pinoy sobrang nationalistic natin noh? So kahit sa sports, kahit sa beauty pageant, ‘di ba gusto talaga natin may titulo tayo? Talagang palaban ‘yung Pilipinas kaya sa fashion industry naman at me bilang model, gusto ko din sana magka-title din tayo.”

Monika is considered as a top contender for winning the photo challenges four times in the reality TV show. AsNTM fans are rooting for the Filipina beauty to clinch the title after Filipina models Jodilly Pendre, Katarina Rodriguez and Stephanie Retuya also made a mark in the Top 3 of the past two seasons.

“Ay sana, kasi sobrang ini-envision ko na ‘yan!” she exclaimed.

The “2012 Century Tuna Superbods” winner narrated that she auditioned for AsNTM last year, but failed to make the cut. “From that moment, iniisip ko ‘Kaya ko ‘to! Next year [kukunin ko ang] title! Kaya natin ‘yan!” she said.

Luckily, she was picked as one of the 14 girls for the third cycle of the modelling-search show. The 5’10” model shared, “Kailangan maniwala ka pa din, kahit na hindi ako natanggap last year. Sometimes kapag gusto mo talaga, go lang! Try pa din ‘pag may chance.”

She thanked everyone who has been watching and supporting the Team Philippines in the show. In the Season 3 runway finale, Monica will be competing against Singapore’s Aimee Cheng-Bradshaw and Indonesia’s Ayu Gani, and it will be aired this Sunday (June 21) on GMA.
