Yasmien Kurdi was only three years old when she first had a feel of how it was to sing on stage. It was her first time to join a singing contest, and her chosen piece was a ballad titled “Hero.” Little did she know that 15 years later, she will become a successful recording artist with two albums and a multitude of fans singing along to her hits. Mauricio stars From the little girl who dreamed of being somebody through her songs, Yasmien has now become more than ordinary as she makes a name for herself in the music world. Today, she is one of the most favorite pop singers in the country, and the release of her second album, Love is All I Need , proves this best. “Nadito po ako sa same stage… like I was two years ago” Yasmien said as she proudly presented her new album at the Hard Rock Café Makati last May 24, 2007. She wore a big smile and looked very excited to perform again. stars Soon enough, the young star was singing her heart out and wowing the crowd with her sweet serenades. She performed five songs from her latest collection of hits, including her carrier single, Rivermaya’s Kisapmata , Candlelight Romance (written by Sandwich’s Mong Alcaraz and Mike Dizon), her own composition Love Is All I Need , Take It or Leave It (I Know Remix) and a hit from her first album, In the Name of Love . The pop princess explains why she is so into her new masterpiece. “Ipinagmamalaki ko po talaga itong album ko na ito, kasi ako talaga ito eh. Pinaghirapan ko po talaga ‘yan, hanggang sa huling-huli, nandoon po ako at nakatutok (sa paggawa).” She adds that these songs now are more reflective of who she is and what she has gone through. “Iyong mga songs ko (ngayon), hindi ko makakanta noong mga time na ‘yon (kasi) parang hindi ako makaka-relate, (since) hindi ko pa naranasan.” Making the occasion more special is the presence of her fans, friends and sponsors. Members of the press and representatives from TV and radio stations, and record bars were also around to show their support. stars In each of her numbers, it can be observed that Yasmien has indeed matured: from the way she projected her voice to the manner by which she carried herself. The music videos previously shown to guests revealed her growth from the Yasmien people knew from two years back and the Yasmien love now.
