The Philippine pageant season is off to a controversial start as one of the delegates for the upcoming Miss Universe Philippines pageant has announced her resignation from her post.
In one of the more recent posts on her Instagram account, Miss Universe Philippines Benguet 2026 Cristeta Longey announced her formal resignation from her post and that she would not be competing in this year's Miss Universe Philippines pageant.
In four slides, Cristeta explained the Miss Universe Philippines Benguet organization informed her last month that it would be unable to financially support her Miss Universe Philippines journey. However, Cristeta revealed that she discovered “through another channel” that the Benguet organization was preparing another representative for the pageant without informing her, after she had invested “time, personal resources, and emotional energy” into preparing for the Miss Universe pageant.
Cristeta also alleges that the organization accused her of “utter disloyalty” for speaking up about issues within the organization involving cash prizes. According to Cristeta, the cash prizes for the Miss Universe Philippines Benguet pageant winners still haven't been released, with the organization only planning to do so by February 15 this year. Cristeta says she and her fellow winners were crowned in October last year.

Most of the people in Cristeta's comments were supportive of her, either expressing their sadness at her not competing in the 2026 Miss Universe Philippines pageant or calling on pageant organizations to reimburse candidates for their expenses during the competition.
Sparkle artist and newly minted Miss Universe Philippines Baguio Roxie Smith also expressed her support for Cristeta in the comments, sharing that she can't wait for the “redirection” for Cristeta.
Roxie herself is set to compete in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant as a representative for Baguio. During her crowning and sashing ceremony at The Proscenium in Rockwell, Makati, Roxie called the opportunity “a dream always planted” in her heart that she is now happy to pursue.
