
Local theater fans, time to free up your Saturday night!
In commemoration of its 53rd anniversary, The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) will be showcasing the musical, Musikal II, on September 10 at 8 pm.
The program serves as the sequel to CCP's Musikal: A Musical Theater Celebration which was staged back in 2014.

According to CCP, the musical will feature excerpts from a myriad of original Filipino musicals from 2015 to 2021 under the direction of musical theater artist Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo.
“Stephen Sondheim's Follies was Yulo's inspiration for Musikal II, which she envisioned to herald the return of the Filipino musicals, after the two years of the pandemic,” CCP explained.
Musikal II will include songs from Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!, Kanser, the Musical, Felix Starro, Ang Larawan, Lapu-Lapu, Ang Datu ng Mactan, Guadalupe, Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko, F(r)iction, Changing Partners, Ang Huling El Bimbo, Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical, Dekada '70, A Game of Trolls, Mabining Mandirigma: A Steampunk Musical, Aurelio Sedisyoso: A Rock Sarswela, The Quest for the Adarna, Ding, Ang Bato!, Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady, Himala: Isang Musikal, and Daluyong ng Diwa.
Additionally, the two new compositions of Vince de Jesus for the musical--Muling Gisingin and Nandito Pa Rin Ako--will also be performed.
The show will be brought to life by lead artists from various theater companies, including Bituin Escalante, Bayang Barrios, Arman Ferrer, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, Carla Guevara Laforteza, Sandino Martin, Reb Atadero, Delphine Buencamino, Topper Fabregas, Upeng Fernandez, Vic Robinson, Ricci Chan, and Juliene Mendoza.
CCP will be live streaming Musikal II and tickets are invitational only.
CCP said certain sections are free and open to the public but tickets will only be released two hours before the show on a first-come, first-served basis.
CCP recently announced that its main building is temporarily closing until March 2025 to give way to retrofitting and renovations.
