Nadine Lustre

Nadine Lustre took to social media to speak out on issues involving disrespect toward Siargao locals, animal cruelty, environmental destruction, and government shortcomings.

Actress Nadine Lustre is speaking out on multiple social issues, from the treatment of locals in Siargao to animal cruelty and environmental destruction.

On her Instagram Community page, Nadine shared a lengthy reflection about the “absence of respect” she has been witnessing online and in real life.

“Lately, things have been sitting heavily on my mind,” she began.

The actress said she felt overwhelmed after seeing “another story, another video, another reminder of how deeply messed up so much of the world around us has become.”

Nadine went on to describe respect as “a consciousness” and “a way of moving through the world with awareness.”

She then turned her attention to Siargao, where she has been spending much of her time since the pandemic.

According to Nadine, she continues to witness disrespect toward locals on the island.

“The way some people come here and treat locals as if they are beneath them, as if hospitality means servitude, as if kindness gives them permission to disrespect boundaries, spaces, and people,” she wrote.

“You hear stories of aggression, entitlement, violence, and complete disregard for the community that existed here long before tourism ever did.”

Nadine previously spoke up about alleged incidents involving foreign nationals and locals in Siargao, and in her latest statement, she suggested that the issue remains ongoing.

“It's painful watching people treat this island like a temporary playground while the people who actually call it home are left carrying the consequences,” she added.

The actress also criticized the government, calling out what she described as corruption, incompetence, and “performative concern.”

“So many of them are clearly toying with us, treating people like we're too blind to notice the corruption, incompetence, performative concern, and endless cycle of disappointment,” she said.

Nadine likewise expressed concern over environmental issues, particularly the cutting of trees in the name of “development” and “progress.”

“It's unsettling watching people destroy the very things that keep us alive so casually,” she wrote.

She also condemned cruelty toward animals and spoke about the importance of compassion beyond human convenience.

“People intentionally harming innocent beings that have done absolutely nothing to deserve cruelty,” she said.

Toward the end of her message, Nadine encouraged people to move through life with “more mindfulness,” “more awareness,” and “more respect for people, communities, nature, animals, and lives outside of our own.”

“At the end of the day, the world doesn't become gentler on its own,” she wrote.
