Waking up in the morning only to see eye bags in the mirror isn't the best way to start your day. Yes, they aren't dangerous but do they really have to appear in our faces? Also, why is it practically impossible to find an effective way to reduce them?
If you're asking the same questions as above, well we've scoured through the internet and listed some home remedies to remove eye bags effectively (hooray!):
According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, potatoes carry an enzyme called catecholase that when oxidized becomes benzoquinone, an active ingredient in skin bleaching products. It also transfers antioxidants such as Vitamin C and other nutrients that help nourish the skin around the eyes.
How to: Lie down and place chilled sliced potatoes over your eyes for 10 minutes to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
According to Kate Somerville, author of “Complexion Perfection,” egg whites have astringent properties that act to tighten, tone, and reduce puffiness under the eyes.
How to: Apply ½ teaspoon of egg white under the eyes with your fingers and let dry for about 15 minutes. Then rinse well with warm water.
Milk is known to contain lactic acid which has been shown to help reduce darkness and puffiness, while also moisturizing and softening the area. It also contains other ingredients like proteins, enzymes, amino acids, and antioxidants that strengthen and heal the skin around the eye.
How to: Soak two cotton balls in cold milk and then place them under your eyes for a few minutes.
Tea bags contain anti-inflammatory properties that provide relief from swollen eyes. Similarly, the presence of caffeine also helps shrink blood vessels and lighten the skin. While the antioxidants fight free radicals and remove fine lines and circles.
How to: Soak two tea bags in hot water, just like you would in making tea. After steeping for a few minutes, remove the tea bags and set it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to cool down. Once cooled, place the tea bags on your eyelids and under-eye area for 10-20 minutes. Wash eyes with cool water.
