Kapuso star Derek Ramsay had long captured our hearts by being the beautiful person that he is inside and out, on and off camera.
But up to this day, he's still full of wonderful surprises and we cannot get enough of it.
In an interview with Tunay na Buhay host Pia Arcangel, Derek shared stories about his childhood and some other amazing little-known facts about him.
Derek revealed that he was a naughty boy-so naughty that he was kindly asked to leave their school. His father, Mr. Derek Arthur Ramsay Sr., agreed to his son's revelation but also defended him.
Derek's dad said, “Everything that he did 'naughty' was always with good intention. He was always a happy child.”
Anyone who grew up in a time when children played outside instead of staying at home with their gadgets will relate to Derek's childhood story.
He recounted getting a taste of his mom's pingot because he was always out on the streets.
He said, “Batang kalye nga ako, e. Yung mommy ko uuwi 'yan from work 'tapos wala ako sa bahay. Alam niya na kung saan ako pupuntahan. I'd be out on the streets playing basketball.”
It's no secret that Derek is into sports. Since a child and up until now, Derek plays rugby, football, frisbee, golf, and basketball.
And when Pia asked what was his childhood dream, Derek replied, “I wanted to be a professional football player.”
It may seem unlikely for a sporty guy to major in Physics, Chemistry and Math, but Derek had a very amazing reason for doing so. He explained, “They were my weakest subjects in high school.”
Pia was taken aback and asked, “Parang usually, 'di ba, if it's your weakest subject, hindi 'yon yung kukunin mo pagdating ng college?”
Derek then aswered, “E, 'yon na yung side ko na I'm very competitive. I always wanna do things right. I didn't do it so well during high school, so I took it as a challenge.”
Derek had always been discreet about his charity works.
He revealed that he was hesitant to embark on one project that involved publishing a book titled The World of Derek, because he found it so vain.
But he did anyway because it will help many children. He then proudly shared that because of that book, they were able to build an orphanage in Mindanao.
“I plan to live here for the next 15 or 20 years…start my own family here,” Derek said as he gave Pia a short tour of his future home, which is still currently under construction. He also shared that he wants his parents to live with him there, too.
