Comedian Negi gets candid about childhood trauma and healing

Netizens know Negi as one of the funniest openly gay comedians in showbiz and comedy bars.

Through his witty jokes and playful banter with fellow comedians, Negi never fails to spread good vibes and bring smiles to his audience.

However, what many people don't know is that Negi carries a painful story from his childhood—one that many “millennial bekis” can sadly relate to.

In an interview with Toni Gonzaga, the comedian-actor looked back on his life as a child who already understood his true sexuality at a young age.

During that time, however, the LGBTQ+ community was not yet warmly accepted by society, especially within families.

“Kaya noong araw, parang takot na takot ako na magsabi kung ano talaga ako,” Negi shared, recalling how he hid the truth from his father.

“Ayaw niya.

Negi remembered how his father would get angry at gay people in their community, including his friends.

The actor also shared an incident when he forgot to hide his lipstick in his bag, which led to severe punishment from his father.

As he grew older, Negi admitted that he hated his father and often questioned what he had done to deserve the violence.

However, after living independently, Negi began to reflect on his past.

Kaya pala ako binubugbog ng tatay ko,” the comedian said.

Forgiveness and acceptance eventually followed when Negi saw his father bedridden.

Negi shared that this was also the time when his anger faded and he learned to love his father more. Even without receiving an apology, he chose to shower his parent with love and support.

Negi added that he believes a person is more blessed when they learn to love and respect their parents.
