Detroit-style pizza

Famous for its square shape and crispy and chewy crust, the Detroit-style pizza can be sampled in these three locations.

When it comes to pizza, the ones that come to mind most often are Chicago deep dish pizza and New York-style pizza. But there's another one climbing up the ranks that will soon command everyone's attention -- Detroit-style pizza.

Just from its look alone, Detroit-style pizza already stands out from both Chicago deep dish and New York-style. Unlike the traditional round pizzas, Detroit-style pizza is rectangular in shape with a crispy and chewy thick crust. It's usually topped with tomato sauce and cheese and is an iconic part of Detroit's local cuisine. Numerous food publications in the United States have also reviewed it favorably.

If you're curious to see what the buzz is all about, check out these three local pizzerias offering Detroit-style pizza.

Crosta Pizzeria (The Social on Ebro, 5770 Ebro Street, Makati City)

Located in Makati's Poblacion area, Crosta Pizzeria has been called a "must-try" and a pizzeria that "gets right" what other establishments "get wrong.”

Their offerings of Detroit-style pizza range from the "Detroit Basic," which has a mix of three cheeses, pizza sauce, and the Detroit cheese crust; to the “super Duper Supreme,” which has pepperoni, bacon, fennel, sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions.

Crosta Pizzeria is open from Wednesday to Monday, from 11:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Customers can call +63 977 284 5636 or place their orders at https://crosta.pickup.ph/.

Corner Pizza (Multiple locations)

Because of its multiple locations, Corner Pizza by Kenny Rogers roasters is the better choice for pizza lovers that maybe at more far-flung locations.

Pizza aficionados are spoiled for choice because aside from the original Detroit-style pizza, they can also choose ones with different toppings. Some of the options are roast chicken fajita, bacon margherita, and sausage jalapeño.

Customers can place their orders at https://www.cornerpizza.com.ph.

Tripod's Pizza (84M Matimtiman Street, Teacher's Village East. QC)

Located in Quezon City and with an online presence mostly on Facebook and Instagram, Tripod's Pizza is a small kitchen with a small team. They have a strict dough preparation process that involves 36 hours of cold fermentation. The dough is then cooked in a brick oven for 60-90 secs at 400 degrees Celsius. Because of their strict dough preparation process, slots for orders are very limited.

Those who want to try out their Detroit-style pizzas can pick from a classic arugula pizza, a pepperoni pizza, a white pepperoni pizza, or Detroit halves. Detroit halves are Detroit-style pizzas that are half-pepperoni and half-double cheese.

Tripod's Pizza is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Customers can call 09615374256 or place their orders at https://tripodspizza.pickup.ph/matimtiman.
