The musical duo lights up our Sunday nights with their smiling faces and undeniable charisma. While on the set of their videoke show, Jaya and Allan K take a break and chat with iGMA about favorite moments, memorable experiences, and dream episodes.
For Soul Diva Jaya, the best thing about being in
All Star K! is getting to host with Allan K. "Para kasi itong playtime sa amin. You know, when we meet here, most of the guests we already know, so it's like, it's so fun to bond again (and talk about) tsismis. Actually itong trabaho na ito is the easiest for me. Kasi (kilala) mo na halos (lahat) 'yung mga guests, tapos kabarkada mo pa 'yung co-host mo. So there's nothing hard about it."
Allan couldn't agree more. "Oh, it's not work we're doing!" he says. "We don't consider it work; we're just having fun being around. And we get paid!"
The show originally started with Arnell Ignacio as its host, before Jaya and Allan K came in. But the two didn't come in at the same time. It was Jaya who hosted it first and then Allan came along a few weeks later to share in the hosting duties.
Allan admits to feeling pressured when he first came in as Jaya's co-host: "There was pressure because Jaya had been hosting it for three weeks already, tapos papasok ako," says Allan. "Paano kung bumaba (ang ratings)?"
Fortunately, the two hit it off at the right note and made the show their own. Says Jaya, "We're both honest with each other. At saka magkakilala na kami sa Eat Bulaga pa noong 1997, so walang nagpapatungan, nagpapa-eksena, (at) walang nagsasapawan. And then of course, he's the master of all hosts, so natututo ako sa kaniya every time we go on stage!"
For Allan who has been doing sing-alongs even before the show started, being in the videoke challenge is like second nature already. "It's a very normal thing that I do, because all my life, I've been a sing-along master, so this is like just doing the same thing. Televised lang."
People may think that the hosts know all the lyrics to the songs, but Jaya begs to disagree. "Hindi a! Kahit ako, hindi ko minsan alam 'yung kanta, e! So talagang pati kami, 'Ano ba yung lyrics noon?' Kung ako pala 'yun, e di nagkamali ako, wala akong napanalunan! 'Cos we really don't know all the lyrics to all the songs."
The hosts' monitor only shows the lyrics to the songs until the elimination round, but after that, they're on level ground with the contestants.
When asked to name their guests for a dream episode, the two immediately get big grins on their faces as they imagine how that episode would be like.
"Oh my goodness!" says Jaya. "A dream episode would have foreign guests like Vin Diesel and The Rock! Di ba? Why not go for the highest level? (And) Jude Law!!! Okay, that's the third, then there's the husband of Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher! Who else? Johnny Depp! Orlando Boom! Yoyoy Villame! Up up up and away!"
Jaya explains that all the guys would have to sing foreign songs, and if she were to choose the 1 million peso winner, it would have to be The Rock or Orlando!
Allan, on the other hand, would want to have local divas for his dream episode. "Si Jaya, si Regine (Velasquez), si Zsa Zsa (Padilla), (and) Kuh Ledesma! (Then) papauwiin natin si Lani (Misalucha). (Then add) Janno (Gibbs) and Ogie (Alcasid)!" Unlike Jaya, Allan didn't name who he wants to win. "I would like to find out kung sino talaga!"
Jaya shares that some recent developments in the show are bigger prizes and a grand raffle draw. "(It's a) 1 million peso challenge, pero konti pa lang nakaka-one million, which is Regine (Velasquez) and Mark Tupaz. That's it, one boy and one girl. We're waiting for more! We want to really give away the money, but sometimes, hindi mo talaga akalain na 'Ay, ay! Hindi mo alam yung kanta! Sayang! Nandoon ka na!'"
Who will be the next lucky winner who will sing his or her way to one million? Tune in this Sunday to find out!
