Mike Enriquez's wife, Lizabeth "Baby" Yumping-Enriquez, felt very honored to receive the posthumous award given to the late GMA News pillar by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) on Friday, September 15, at the GMA Network Center in Quezon City.
Present during the event were Ellen Pulido, the 2022 People Management Association of the Phil (PMAP) and board of trustee for Media and Communications member and PMAP Communication Specialist and Makatao Awards for Media Excellence Program Lead Martin Alcantara.
Also in attendance were training head Mr. Richard Mamuyac and HR head Bernadette Tan.
Meanwhile, first vice president for Radio Operations Group, Glenn F. Allona; and assistant vice president for GMA Integrated News, John Ray Arrabe, also witnessed the awarding as well.
Pulido told GMA reporters that they believed that it was fitting to give the multi-awarded Kapuso broadcaster a posthumous award, who is also a PMAP Makatao Awards for Media Excellence hall of famer.
And this age of technology meron na rin tayong nga recognition sa digital practitioners.” Pulido said.
She added, “Ito ay ibinigay natin kay Sir. Mike dahil sa pagkilala, dahil siya ay naging Hall of Famer ng PMAP Makatao Awards for Media Excellence.
“We believe that its fitting to give him a Posthumous award dahil sa pagkilala sa kaniyang pagiging makatao. Pagkakaroon ng magandang puso para sa mamayan, hindi lang sa pamamagitan ng pamamahayag, but also in management of people.”
On the other hand, in a short speech, Tita Babyin expressed her profound gratitude to PMAP for recognizing the contribution of her late husband to “nation building.”
Mrs. Enriquez stated, “The passing of Mike has left us in a state of great sadness and loss.
“But at the same time an opportunity to celebrate his legacy- the leadership and excellence he demonstrated in the field of broadcast both in television and radio.
“His undying commitment to public service and love for life itself as a selfless individual and family man will continue to guide and inspire us. To the People Management Association of the Philippines thank you for recognizing the value and contribution of Mike to nation building.”
“Mula sa akin at buong pamilya, maraming salamat po.”
Mike passed away at the age of 71 on August 29, 2023.
Radio Operations Group executive Glenn Allona also paid tribute to his beloved boss in RGMANetwork. He added that Sir Mike, whom they fondly call “Booma” was a “mentor” to him.
He shared, “Si Sir.
“He was a leader, my mentor. Itong mga ganitong pagpupugay at parangal will always [remind us of him]. Araw-araw nakikita namin 'yung PMAP trophies ni Sir. Mike sa office. They remind us everyday na kahit na wala na siya , kailangan namin ipagpatuloy kaniyang legasiya.”
Mike Enriquez is known for having a tough persona as a broadcaster, but for GMA Integrated News executive, John Ray Arrabe, they witnessed first-hand how Booma showed his love and care for his co-workers.
He recalled, “He was consummate professional.
“Wala na ako ibang kakilala ganun ka-adept sa job niya, because he loves broadcasting so much. Alam ko sa tagal ko siya sa katrabaho na he was a people person- he likes to talk with everyone in the newsroom. He has a kind word for everyone.
Turning emotional, Arrabe admitted that the death of Mike Enriquez was a big loss to everyone in the GMA Integrated News team saying.
Mike Enriquez is one of the anchors of the flagship primetime newscast 24 Oras and the host of the award-winning public affairs program Imbestigador.
He also served as the president of RGMA Network, Inc. and GMA Network's senior vice president and consultant for Radio Operations.
