There's still a few days left before Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee has to walk the stage at El Salvador's José Adolfo Pineda Arena to try and bring home the country's fifth Miss Universe crown, and if the competitions leading up to coronation night are any indication, she may have a good chance of doing so.
In a post on the official Miss Universe Instagram account, the organization posted a graphic showcasing the 10 Silver finalists of the pageant's Voice for Change competition, with Michelle being part of the group. Aside from her, the other finalists were Miss Angola Ana Coimbra, Brazil's Maria Brechane, Chile's Celeste Viel, Lebanon's Maya Abou El Hosn, Puerto Rico's Karla Acevedo, Singapore's Priyanka Annuncia, South Africa's Bryoni Govender, Ukraine's Angelina Usanova, and Zimbabwe's Brooke Bruk-Jackson.
The top 10 were determined through online votes and the judge's scores, with Michelle topping the voting for the Voice for Change videos.
Michelle's autism advocacy was the centerpiece of her Voice for Change video where she talked about the Autism Society of the Philippines' (ASP) Autism Works program that includes career development programs, support systems, and life coaching for its beneficiaries. The ASP Autism Works program has already helped people on the autism spectrum get more than 250 positions in 53 enterprises across 10 provinces and in different industries.
Aside from making it to the top 10 of the Voice for Change competition, Michelle also felt good about her performance during her closed-door interview, where she hoped that the “most important aspects” of her individuality was “well received and understood by the judges.”
Michelle has also been spending time getting to know her fellow delegates, even as early as the sash ceremony where she shared photos of her with other candidates at the InterContinental San Salvador-Metrocentro Mall in El Salvador.
