After being charged by authorities for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol last Tuesday, August 6, BTS member Suga released a statement and addressed the situation on the online platform Weverse.
Suga wrote a letter to fans last Wednesday, August 7, and expressed his regrets and “heavy” and “sorry” heart for the said “shameful incident,” which the authorities caught through a breathalyzer test.
The K-pop idol explained that he chose to ride his electric scooter from dinner that was “accompanied by drinks” to his home since he “only had a short way to go.”
“Last night, after having a meal that was accompanied by drinks, I rode an electric scooter to return home. I was being too lax since I only had a short way to go, and I didn't recognize the fact that I shouldn't be riding an electric scooter while inebriated,” he wrote on Wednesday.
He followed it with a broader explanation of the events that occurred last Tuesday and said that he fell while parking his scooter.
This caught the attention of a police officer who later decided to take Suga to a breathalyzer test.
According to Suga, the incident cost him his driver's license and a fine.
Toward the end of his statement, Suga reiterated his regrets about the incident.
“While no one was harmed and no property was damaged, I have no excuse for what happened and take full responsibility. I bow my head and give everyone my deepest apologies,” he wrote.
Suga also assured everyone to be “extremely mindful” to avoid further incidents in the future.
He wrote, “I apologize to everyone affected by my poor, careless behavior, and will be extremely mindful of my actions in the future so as to avoid such incidents happening again.”
