It was in 2021 when international singer David Archuleta came out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Three years after his revelation, the American Idol star said he's more comfortable with himself than before he came out.
“Before, I was like so scared and so nervous that people were going to find ugly parts of me and I didn't know what that was, but I was like 'There's something inside me that's horrible,'” David said during his interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast.
He said that he identifies as queer, an umbrella term for people who are not straight, instead of straight-out gay.
He explained, “I don't think the LGBTQ+ community is not always a hundred percent, you're not just a hundred percent straight, and you're not a hundred percent gay. There's a spectrum.”
David added, “I feel like there's some of that in me but I like guys for the most part, and I've found joy just allowing myself to connect with them on a romantic level and see like this thing that I thought was going to be the end of my soul and turn me into an evil person.”

He even admitted hating himself before, thinking that he had to change and that he will never receive love if he accepted his being queer. However, after finally realizing that this is who he is, David finally accepted himself and said that he's not afraid of being labeled as queer anymore.
“I can love myself and I can love other people more fully now,” the international singer said.
“To accept this scary thing about me and realize it's a beautiful thing has changed my life. It changed my music, it changed the way I perform, and so I can't wait to bring this new David 2.0 into the show on September 14,” David said.
