
Filipino athletes celebrated another triumph at an international sports competition, bringing home not just one medal but an impressive total of 16 prestigious awards!
At the recent 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championships, 12 Filipino athletes excelled in various categories. Kickboxer Jovan Medallo led the way, winning two gold medals in the Musical Form with Weapon and Open Hand categories. He also won the bronze award in the Creative Form with Weapon.
Following him, Hergie Bacyadan secured gold in the 70kg K1 Female competition, while Carlo Von Buminaang took home gold in the 67kg Lowkick Male category. Gina Araos also proudly claimed the top spot in the 56kg Lowkick Female division. Additionally, Honorio Banario earned a silver medal in the 75kg K1 Male category.
Filipina athlete Janah Jade Lavador won bronze medals in both categories of Musical Form with and without Weapon. She also took home another bronze medal in the Creative Form with Weapon.
Other Pinoy athletes who secured bronze medals included Renalyn Dacquel (48kg Lowkick Female), Claudine Veloso (52kg K1 Female), Whinny Bayawon (57kg Kicklight Male), Lance Airon Villamer (63kg Point Fighting Male), Daryl Chulipas (51kg Full Contact Male), and Felex Dave Cantores (63.5kg Full Contact Male).
In total, the Philippine team earned five golds, one silver, and ten bronze medals. The Philippines' kickboxing team, Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas, proudly announced the recent triumph in their Facebook page.
They happily greeted, "Congratulations Everyone! Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino! Laban para sa bayan!"
The 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championships took place from October 6 to 13 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
