Balota tells the story of a land-grabbing tycoon and a former male sexy actor locked in a tight race for the mayoral seat of a small town. Marian's character, Teacher Emmy, gets caught in the crossfire when violence erupts during the elections. She must protect a ballot box containing the last copy of the election results.

Joining Marian in the film are the talented cast: Gardo Versoza, Will Ashley, Royce Cabrera, Raheel Bhyria, Sassa Gurl, Esnyr, Nico Antonio, Donna Cariaga, Joel Saracho, Sue Prado, and Mae Paner.

The suspense-comedy-satire film is co-produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Entertainment Group with Cinemalaya.

It made its debut at the 2024 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, where it garnered significant recognition and prestigious awards.

In August 2024, Balota became one of the top box-office hits at Cinemalaya Bente, with Marian receiving the Best Actress award for her performance. The new cut of the film was later shown in cinemas nationwide in October.
