As part of GMA Network's commitment to an honest and truthful election coverage, GMA Integrated News (GMAIN), in coordination with GMA Regional TV and Synergy, held the “The GMA Integrated News YouScoop+ Bootcamp” last April 25, training over 100 student volunteers from partner schools nationwide.

The bootcamp, held both face-to-face and via Zoom webinar, equipped the students with essential skills to assist the GMAIN Digital Action Center on the upcoming 2025 Midterm Elections. These volunteers will play a crucial role in monitoring online content, identifying trending stories across various social media platforms, and ensuring the delivery of fast, accurate, and engaging news.

The event featured a lineup of esteemed speakers, led by GMA Network Senior Vice President for Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso.

Amoroso emphasized the gravity of the volunteers' role: “Our work this May will not be easy. It will be hours and hours of hard work, non-stop work, as we aim--as we have always done so--to provide our fellow Filipinos the most trusted and most comprehensive coverage of the elections. After all, we always hear that the future of our nation-your future-is at stake.”

Also part of the roster of speakers were Assistant Vice President and Deputy Head for GMAIN Social Media Team Aileen Perez, GMAIN Social Media Assistant Manager Ted Ortiz, and GMAIN Social Media Producer Jaia Yap.

The bootcamp curriculum focused on vital aspects of digital journalism, including tips and techniques for identifying relevant news discussions and trends, strategies for spotting red flags in viral stories, methods for gathering user-generated content for YouScoop+, the importance of verification, fact-checking, and accuracy in reporting, and the effective techniques for sharing verified information with the audience.

“The YouScoop+ Bootcamp is more than a training - it's a first step for future journalists to take their place in building a more factual digital world. Meeting them in person makes the partnership real, and shows GMA Integrated News' serious commitment to Panata Kontra-Fake News advocacy. These young storytellers will help us spot real stories and hopefully protect the integrity of #Eleksyon2025. Let's make the world a better place, one post at a time,” said Perez.

The students also had the opportunity to meet and interact with GMA Integrated News reporters Raffy Tima, Aubrey Carampel, Darlene Cay, and Mark Salazar, who shared their personal experiences and insights.

The program was hosted by Synergy sports commentator and analyst Martin “Coach Hammer” Antonio.

The YouScoop+Bootcamp underscores GMA Integrated News' dedication to fostering responsible journalism and empowering the next generation of media professionals in ensuring a transparent and accurate coverage of #Eleksyon2025.
