After the vibrant pop escapade of "Azizam" and the sentimental warmth of "Old Phone," Ed Sheeran is back with a new single, "Sapphire"--a radiant anthem celebrating connection and pure joy. Infused with dynamic pop melodies and global influences, it is set to shine as a defining soundtrack of summer 2025.

A heartfelt tribute to love that knows no boundaries, "Sapphire" blends Ed's signature vocals with intricate South Asian rhythms, soulful backing harmonies, and sitar performed by the acclaimed Indian musician Arijit Singh. The result is a rich musical fusion crafted by the powerhouse team of Ilya Salmanzadeh, Johnny McDaid, and Savan Kotecha, offering listeners a sonic experience that is both personal and expansive.

“'Sapphire' was the first track I finished for Play that gave me a clear direction for the album. That's why I chose to wrap up the recording in Goa, surrounded by some of India's most talented musicians. It was a truly inspiring experience.

"I filmed the video with Liam and Nic during my tour across India earlier this year--we really wanted to capture the beauty and depth of the country and its culture. The final piece of the puzzle was having Arijit Singh join the track. It took a journey to get there, but the day we recorded was full of music, laughter, and family.

"We've also recorded a full Punjabi version of the song, which features even more of Arijit and will be released in the coming weeks. This version is the one featured on the album, and it's my favorite song on it. Hope you love it. x”

The official music video, directed by Liam Pethick, features Arijit Singh and a special appearance by Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan. It opens with Ed performing on a rooftop at dawn, before taking viewers through a colorful journey across India--from peaceful beaches and riversides to lively markets, bustling kitchens, and Bollywood sets. Memorable moments include a jam session and motorcycle ride with Arijit Singh, and a stop at the A.R. Rahman music school, where Ed joins local musicians for an impromptu performance.

Following the conclusion of his The Mathematics Tour, Ed Sheeran returns with Play, a bold new chapter arriving this September. Known for his constant reinvention, Ed explores fresh sonic territory in this album, collaborating with global producers and musicians while staying rooted in the heartfelt sound that's made him a beloved figure in pop music.
