The Ten Commandments during the Holy Week in the Philippines almost seems like a local tradition.
There is something simply compelling about 1956's The Ten Commandments. It stars many old Hollywood greats like Charlton Heston as Moses and Yul Brynner as Rameses. Aside from that, it was also the final and most successful film of producer and director Cecil B. DeMille.
More than anything, this movie presents one of the most integral aspects of the Christian dogma. It tells the story of Moses, the son of a Hebrew slave whose destiny is to lead his people out of Egypt.
Egypt will suffer through ten plagues before the reluctant Pharaoh Rameses lets them leave. Led by Moses, the Hebrews will make their exodus to the promised land.
The Ten Commandments earned seven Academy Awards including Best Motion Picture, Best Special Effects, Best Color Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Color Costume Design, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Recording.
