You don’t call them Filipino pride for nothing.
Four out of nine finalists of
Asia’s Got Talent (AGT) were Filipinos. The group El Gamma Penumbra and Gerphil Flores, who also competed in the local version of the show, emerged as the winner and 3rd Placer, respectively, while Gwyneth Dorado and the Junior New System belonged to the Top 9.
Gerphil Flores is known as David Foster’s “Golden Girl” in the show where she sang
The Impossible Dream as her winning piece, and it left the AGT judge emotional, “You just made the dream possible.“
The international record producer and songwriter promised her global fame. He even whispered his message to her onstage, but the “Golden Girl” refused to disclose the exact words, “Basically, big words of encouragement pero wala pa naman po siyang ino-offer na contract or something.”
“Tapusin ko muna 'yung pag-aaral ko at sana po magtuloy-tuloy na po. Gayon din po, sana tuparin ni David Foster 'yung kanyang promise,” the German-Filipino (GerPhil) talent told host Suzi Abrera on
Unang Hirit.
Many are in awe of her talent and beauty so she imparted advices for classical singers, “Kailangan po 'yung disiplina at proper technique. Sana ma-inspire sila at kung mahiligan nila [ay] ipagpatuloy nila at saka rare na lang po 'yung kumakanta ng [classical] sa young generations.”
On the other hand, the Junior New System received the “Golden Buzzer” ticket that paved their way to the grand finals in which they performed an American Football-themed super dance.
It earned them a standing ovation from the judges wherein Anggun Cipta Sasmi also praised the group,“To me, you got the package.”
The dance group hailing from Sampaloc, Manila couldn’t contain their feelings. One of the members said, “Sobrang saya po kasi bawat pag-perform po namin, nakikita po namin sa tao kung paano po sila nag-e-enjoy na panoorin kami. Tapos kapag nag-pe-perform po kami, gusto po namin ipakita na may puso, may laman at may pinanghuhugutan.”
During the semi-finals, the Junior New System was noted for dancing in their golden heels while doing stunts. They said it didn’t give them a hard time because of the intensive training they underwent.
In addition, 10-year-old rock star Gwyneth Dorado performed “Titanium” in the grand finals and also had a standing ovation from the judges.
AGT judge Vaness Wu is amazed at her and even spoke Filipino, “I loved it. I fell in love with you. Seriously, mahal kita.”
The young singer didn’t only earn her spot in the Top 9, but she also became friends with other contestants in the show, “Sobrang happy po ako at itong journey na ‘to ay I met new friends.”
She shared her preparations for the show, “Siyempre po nag-vo-vocalize po ako bago po kumanta kasi important po ‘yun.”
Aside from singing, she wants to pursue Architecture. The singing architect performed her audition piece in
Unang Hirit which is Katy Perry’s
Roar.
