Support for #NowPH continues to grow.
By ANN CHARMAINE AQUINO
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) joins the campaign for climate change of #NowPH.
The Instagram post of National Youth Commission's Commissioner-at-Large, Dingdong Dantes, showed a caption of Joyce Reyes (@joycereyes) informing everyone how the CBCP showed their support for the climate change campaign of #NowPH.
According to @joycejcamille, "The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) supports the #NowPH Campaign of the National Youth Commission (NYC) and Climate Change Commission (CCC), and is calling on everyone to “understand, act, and pray.” In their official statement drafted last November 11, 2015, the CBCP recognizes the urgency of the global climate situation by affirming that global warming caused by human beings “is no longer disputable,” and that nations with the most carbon emissions must take the burden of the responsibility, with everyone else doing what they can to help."
The CBCP reminds everyone of the encyclical published by Pope Francis last April 24 regarding the alarming status of our planet.
“The CBCP is also reminding everyone that last April 24th, 2015, the Feast of the Holy Spirit, Pope Francis published his encyclical “Laudato Si!: On Care for Our Common Home.” The letter, which the Pope hopes to impact the Paris Climate Change Forum, urges everyone who inhabits the planet to do something about the “alarming deterioration” of the Earth. According to the CBCP, the Pope’s message is a declaration of hope. They also agree that if problems are confronted with honest dialogue and a commitment to act, there will be hope in our united stance to protect our common home. This message also supports the goal of the UN Climate Change Forum in Paris, which is to legally achieve a consensus on future plans to address Climate Change at a global level.”
CBCP is calling on Filipinos to support this campaign for climate change.
“With this, the CBCP is calling on the country’s parishes, Catholic schools, politicians, non-government organizations, and youth to “support the resolution of the Climate Change Commission to reduce our national carbon emissions by 70 percent by 2030.” The UN Climate Change Forum in Paris on 30 November to December 11 will take place on the 21st year since the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1992, and the 11th year since the Kyoto Protocol of 1997.”
