Way before Michael V and Ogie Alcasid became a comedic duo and the best of friends, one was at the mercy of the other.

Over two decades ago, the Pepito Manaloto and Bubble Gang star joined Check 2000, a rapping contest in the noontime show Eat Bulaga. He performed alongside his friend Lady Dianne.

“I joined several contests sa TV, isa lang yata 'yung sa Eat Bulaga. It was a rap contest. Kasama ko si Lady Dianne and dun siya na-discover, na naging daan para ma-discover din ako,” he shared.

Although this was instrumental to the launch of his showbiz career, he didn’t win the segment. The judge who gave them the lowest score is none other than the Angelina to his Yaya, Ogie Alcasid.

“My best friend, my best buddy… For some reason, galing na galing na nga ako sa sarili ko, eh [Ogie] didn’t find us interesting kaya pinababa niya 'yung score,” he recounted.

Now that they’re practically brothers, and even neighbors, they get to make light of the days of yore.

“Sabi niya sa ‘kin, sinasadya niya raw 'yun knowing that one day, kami ay magiging best buddies. Kundi raw dun sa ginawa niya, hindi raw talaga mangyayari [na magiging close kami], so he did that on purpose daw,” Bitoy shared, laughing.
