Filipinos join the whole world in grieving and commemorating the life of Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88 on Easter Monday, April 21.

In a post on X, Vatican News announced the death of the Holy Father, who recently faced a health problem, after staying in the hospital for five weeks due to Pneumonia.

The statement reads, “Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.”

As a predominantly Catholic country, the many Filipinos expressed grief over the death of Pope Francis, making his name a top trending topic on X.

He last visited the Philippines back in January 2015.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber released a statement about the untimely death of the Holy Father saying that Pope Francis served the Lord and His Church for his entire life.

“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis…

“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized.”
