On Easter Monday, April 21, Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pope, died at the age of 88. The Vatican confirmed in a video statement that the Pope died at 7:35 in the morning.

"Dear brothers and sisters, it is with profound sadness I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis," Cardinal Kevin Farrell said on the Vatican's TV channel.

The Vatican also announced on X (formerly Twitter), "Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta."

In February, the Pope was hospitalized in Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital after suffering from bronchitis.

The Pope's condition worsened, and he was eventually diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia in the same month.

After a month in the hospital, the Pope continued his recovery in the Vatican at the Casa Santa Marta.

During his 20s, the Pope has already suffered health-related issues like a respiratory infection
