Filipino-Austrian Johannes Pietsch, also known as JJ, proved just how talented Filipinos are at singing when he won the 69th edition of the international singing competition Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

In the grand finals held in Basel, Switzerland on May 17, JJ performed his original song 'Wasted Love' which earned him 436 points, defeating Israel's 357 points and Estonia's 356 points.

On Instagram, JJ shared a reel of himself holding his trophy and gave a short positive talk. Contrary to the tile of his song, the Fil-Austrian singer said that “love is never wasted.”

“Hello, everybody, we did it! Guys, love is never wasted. There is so much love that can be spread around in any field,” he said.

Before Eurovision, JJ also appeared in “The Voice UK” in 2020 under the mentorship of Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am.

Eurovision is considered the longest-running international singing competition, established in 1956, and has been held annually since then, except during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic. The contest was inspired by the Sanremo Music Festival which was held in the Italian Riviera since 1951.
