"I feel that after everything that’s happened to me, believe it or not, I actually feel I’ve become a better person out of it. There’s a lot more wisdom, not all naivety and happy, happy, joy, joy." - Donita Rose

Actress-host Donita Rose opened up about the real score of her relationship with husband Eric Villarama on a podcast episode of Good Times with Mo. The show’s host Mo Twister is her long-time best friend.

A caller, who is a self-confessed fan of Donita, phoned in to ask about what their family situation is, considering that there have been rumors of a breakup.

“[I’m] not… hiding the fact that we’re not together anymore… I will say that it’ not just very painful, it’s a very devastating thing to go through, so now , I’m in a position where I’m just starting to heal and move on,” she said.

Long distance relationship

Asked if the long-distance relationship was the reason for the split, Donita clarified that there were different factors.

“It’s not the long distance relationship part… It’s other things, too,” she replied.

Donita moved to the Philippines in 2014 to continue her showbiz career while Eric was based in the United States. She admitted that the relationship got rocky at one point.

“During that whole two years plus, it’s been on and off, on and off. But people are saying, ‘You said you guys are okay. How come you guys are not okay right now?’ That’s because it’s been on and off, on and off. So now, I guess it made it official when the other day, I found out that he came out with a post of… I think his profile pic is with a new girl and we did talk about it. We talked about it the other day and he apologized to me,” she shared.

Third party?

For a time, Eric’s profile photo on Instagram was with a different girl. Mo asked if Donita was disappointed about it.

“Oh yeah, absolutely. Actually, I only found out when I guested the last time [here], a couple days ago… I will say that I was shocked because there were comments that were made after and I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ Although we’ve been separated for a while already,” she declared.

As of writing, Eric has changed his profile photo to that of his and JP, his son with Donita.

‘Doing great’

According to Donita, one of the biggest challenges in the situation is them having a son.

“It’s tough when there are kids involved…. One thing that I take comfort in knowing is that sometimes God has to work through adversity… It’s really through the trials and difficulties that you really start seeking answers and really turning to God when you feel things are hopeless,” she revealed.

Although the separation has been tough, she takes pride in how she and JP are coping.

"I feel that after everything that’s happened to me, believe it or not, I actually feel I’ve become a better person out of it. There’s a lot more wisdom, not all naivety and happy, happy, joy, joy. The same thing with my son -- my son has matured a lot through this and we’re great. JP and I are doing great. We’re very happy now,” she added.

After a few days of putting off a run, I finally got off the couch! Did 8 laps with this guy who can out sprint me now. ???? That's what I get for not working out for 3 months.

No regrets

Mo also asked her if she thinks about the past and wonders how things would’ve turned out had she and Eric did not become a couple.

“I don’t normally say this but hell yeah! (laughs) But I will say that ‘cause at one point, I could’ve you know… could’ve, should’ve would’ve, but I have JP and if I had to go through this a million times to have my son, I would. The outcome is still the same… He is my pride and joy,” she disclosed.

Donita said that it isn’t the easiest journey but she looks forward to how everything will pan out.

“I don’t wish this on anyone. My heart has been smashed into a million pieces. Good thing though I like jigsaw puzzles. I’m okay to put it back together again but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s really tough,” she concluded.
