Actor Rustom Cariño Padilla filed his petition for change of name and gender in the Superior Court of California Central Justice Center last August 18.
His proposed name is Binibini Gandanghari, the name he has been referred to by the public since he came out as a transgender woman in 2009. The petition also includes a request to formally change his gender to female.
He expressed his excitement and hopefulness in his Instagram posts.
“It’s really just a matter of time now. It all starts with the name… Change is coming… Big time,” he wrote.
The court hearing for the petition is set to take place in November.
