Direk Maryo on his new soap: “It is a romantic story that fades slowly but along the way struggles to maintain a theme that 'the heart always remembers.’"

In an interview with the media during the press conference of Someone to Watch Over Me, veteran director Maryo J. de los Reyes talked about the challenges he encountered while taping the show.
 
He explained, “Basically, it’s how to make the story interesting. Kasi, negative na agad ‘yung sakit, eh. So how do you make it interesting para maging kapuna-puna. Para magkaroon ng laman nang husto ang kuwento. Pangalawa, how do you make a very well-researched story about a definite disease, like Alzheimer’s. Kasi ang alam natin sa Alzheimer’s, ito ay nagkakaroon ng effect 'pag ikaw ay tumanda na, dahil namamatay ang brain. Parang, tulad ng ibang sakit, tulad sa puso, ito naman sa utak, nawawalan ng function ang utak at lahat ng memory na naka-bank doon ay unti- unting mawawala. At pangatlo, is to make it entertaining and captivating para sa audience, kung paano natin ito malalahad. So, that’s the biggest challenge. And justifying, how to you justify with the stars that you have, na bigyan mo sila ng something to bite on, at the same time, para mabigay nila ng lubos-lubusan ang binigay mo sa kanila.”
 
Direk also focused on the show’s theme: “It is a romantic story that fades slowly but along the way struggles to maintain a theme that 'the heart always remembers.’ Whether, tumanda ka, or mawalan ka na ng isip, o kaya mag-fade ka na mula sa mundo.”
 
He also expounded on where the team is currently at right now: “So far, andito pa rin kami sa pag-aaral kung paano mo maiilalahad 'yung sakit na ito in the most interesting way.“
 
Someone to Watch Over Me will be premiering in GMA Telebabad this September 5.
