Lovi Poe is now more like a woman, but is still the girl we learned to love--warm, sweet, and always with a twinkle in her eye.
Lovi Poe entered the Barangay LS studio for her “Fanatxt All Stars” stint, statuesque in her powder blue lacy top and sky-high heels, a Paolo Coelho book in one hand. Her stunning looks betray her age; she looks more like a woman now than someone who just graduated from high school. Yet behind that grown-up beauty is still the girl we love—warm, sweet, and always with a twinkle in her eye. Text by Jillian Q. Gatcheco. Bookworm beauty This self-confessed bookworm is often teased by her best buddy Yasmien Kurdi, who is the exact opposite of her reserved yet wacky personality. “We’re really very different persons kaya kami compatible,” Lovi explains. She recalls a day-out with Yas where they played video games: “Nagpatalo siya para manalo ako!” starsWhile Yas is the outgoing beach babe, Lovi says Yas calls her “yung tipong mga taong nagbabasa ng libro, yung ayos!” She shares, “Sabi niya, ‘Lovi, beach outfit ako ngayon, ikaw, parang nagbabasa ka ng pocket book na naman!’” Lovi imparts that she got the reading habit when her mom required her to read a pocket book a day when she was little. “Kahit Sweet Valley lang!” Her mom has always emphasized the value of reading, which is why she learned to love it as well. In fact, Lovi prefers to read than watch TV or surf the Net, because she’d rather “leave something to the imagination.” She just finished her Judith McNaught phase, so she’s now into Paolo Coelho. If she got her love for books from her mom, Lovi says she learned humility from her dad, big screen legend Fernando Poe Jr. “The most important thing is to keep my feet on the ground. Everyone knows dad is very humble, so I try my best na maging mabuting tao din.” Shake, Rattle and Roll! starsLovi just finished taping the ninth installment of Shake, Rattle, and Roll, which will be an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival in December. In her first movie, Lovi plays 15-year old Hazel, a smart know-it-all whom she likens to Hermione Granger of the Harry Potter fame. “Basta matatakot kayo!” she says, explaining that the focal point of their story [Shake, Rattle, and Roll is a compilation of short horror films] is a Christmas tree. “May monster!” she adds with a laugh. Joining Lovi in “Christmas Tree” are Ms. Gina Alajar, Ms. Boots Anson-Roa, John “Sweet” Lapus, Nash Aguas, and John Prats, among others. On life and love Lovi is on her freshman year at the International Academy of Management and Economics (I/AME), where she’s taking up Business Administration. She dreams of being an entrepreneur someday, but if given the chance to take an alternative career, she realized just recently that she actually wants to become a pediatrician! “Siguro, kung hindi ako mahilig umarte o kumanta, gusto kong maging doktor!” She says she enjoys going to school, especially now that she’s in college and schedule conflicts can be easily resolved. starsAside from school and an upcoming movie, Lovi’s also busy with Zaido and is about to release her sophomore album [She’s thinking of titling it “Quiet Child”]. “I’m excited sa second album, may mga sarili akong compositions. At least, yung mga hindi ko nasasabi, malalabas ko through my songs,” she says. She shares a song she wrote inspired by the late Princess Diana. The title is “Being a Princess,” and it’s about a girl running away from her palace and ending up with a guy who accepts her fully, not knowing about her royal status. Does Lovi identify with this princess in real life? “Secret! Of course, may things na hindi nakikita ng lahat,” she says mysteriously. Does this have to do with a man in her life? starsShe admits she has a childhood suitor who has remained persistent for the longest time [since seventh grade!], and who is still courting her right now. When asked if the guy stands a chance, she replies without missing a beat: “Of course!” In showbiz, on the other hand, she admires her co-stars in Zaido and safely says that she likes “Zaido Green (Marky Cielo), Zaido Blue (Dennis Trillo), and Zaido Red (Aljur Abrenica).” In Hollywood, her biggest crush to date has been Brad Pitt, and she says she’d love to trade lives with Angelina Jolie! Lovi says she prefers to have a non-showbiz boyfriend to avoid all the scandals that celebrity relationships are prone to. “Kasi when you watch sa Showbiz Central, pag nag-aaway sila, ah, hassle, hindi ko kaya! So wag na lang, non-showbiz na lang!” Catch Lovi Poe on Zaido every weeknight, and don’t forget to get in touch with her via Fanatxt!
