They started out as part of a segment, but the three are now stealing the show every week on Nuts Entertainment! Text by Yvette U. Tan. But who are these women? Well for starters, they’re really not female. They’re characters created by three amazing comedians: Joey de Leon, Anjo Yllana, and Janno Gibbs! And they are the stars of Balakubak a show within the Wednesday comedy program. Joey de Leon portrays Doughnut, the leader of the trio in the gossip talk show. Joey can be seen hosting the Saturday talk show Startalk and he brings his chikadora personality out in Doughnut as he, or rather she, grills their guest celebrities about their work, their love, and their life. Doughnut also directs the impromptu scenes that would take place between their guest, and the Balakubak girls at hand. Meanwhile, Lollipop is portrayed by Janno Gibbs who makes a good drag queen, especially with his moustache! As Lollipop, he initiates the whispered question that only the guest and the hosts will know about. Janno has played many female characters prior to Lollipop, often in the variety shows, Eat Bulaga and SOP Rules. Lastly, Anjo Yllana is Popsicle, Doughnut’s reliable accomplice when it comes to grilling the guests, and getting them to act out whatever it is that Doughnut wants them to do. Like Joey and Janno, Anjo is used to portraying female roles as well. He has grown up with comedic roles that end up in the strangest predicaments, and isn’t afraid to test new waters for his career. All three are straight but they sure can play gay in a believable way without being too flamboyant stereotypes.
