Rest in peace, Direk Gil.
 

The Philippine showbiz industry is mourning the death of one of the country’s multi-awarded film directors, Gil Merluza Portes. He died last Wednesday, May 24.

He was 71.

Direk Gil was behind several highly-acclaimed films like Saranggola, Mga Munting Tinig, and Ang Hapis.

As of writing, it is not yet clear what caused his death.

Direk Adolf Alix Jr.  of the Kapuso soap D’ Originals took to Facebook to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker.

 

Rest in Peace Direk Gil Portes. He opened the doors for me through "Mga Munting Tinig" in 2002. Thank you Direk. You are always part of my success as a filmmaker. My prayers and condolences to his family.

Meanwhile, Alessandra de Rossi and Direk Jose Javier Reyes posted on social media their heartfelt gratitude to the late filmmaker for his immense contribution to the Philippines movie industry.
