As bad as he may be on MariMar, one only has to look at his smiling eyes to know that Gabby is the quintessential nice guy. Don’t hate him because he is a good actor. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
When we ran into
Gabby Eigenmann he was sporting a dashing beard and ‘stache. He told us he grew it especially for
MariMar, “para lang mas effective.”

Effective is the word indeed. It seems that Gabby may just be a little too “effective” as Angelika’s
(Katrina Halili) gunman. It seems that as the popularity of
MariMar rises, his good boy image has plummeted down faster than you can say “Awww!”
He shares, “In real life, they tend to look at me as a difficult guy to handle. Feeling nila what they see on TV is real!”
It may be a good indication of his acting prowess but Gabby says that it gets him down sometimes, especially when he is scolded by
Marimar fans when he is out in public. Poor guy! Despite the downside of his job, though, he is proud to be a part of Philippine television’s number one show: “Overwhelmed. I’m very happy to be part of it. And I’m thankful that they chose me to portray such a role. I’m also ecstatic because nakaka-tulong ako.”
Family Business
“It runs in the family. I come from a family of villains,” he says, making it sound as if he is a member of the mafia. Michael de Mesa, Cheri Gil, and Mark Gil are only some of the names whose blood he shares. “Most of the family has their own niche in the business. Sayang kasi we’re good guys. Sana we get to be treated as good guys also.”
In terms of the respect that they get from the industry, there is no doubt that they do. Their family is a dynasty of good actors and
Gabby is only continuing their legacy.
Bad Boy Blues

“How can I prove that I’m also a good guy?” is a question that Gabby asks himself whenever the bad boy blues get him down. “I love doing whatever is given to me. I wanna make it a point to give it my best.”
“[But] People think that I’m antipatico, which is hard because people tend to curse you,” he says. “That’s why I’m also pursuing hosting and singing.”
Gabby’s recording career and regular gig at
SOP provides a chance for people to see a different side of Gabby, a side so totally opposite of Nicandro. Acting, hosting and singing—with all these talents under his belt, it is no wonder he gets our attention. Now, do we hate him? Or love him? No question that it’s the latter.
