The summer is turning out to be an unforgettable one for Mark Herras, as he just experienced two important ‘firsts’ in his life. One was his first-ever trip to the sandy beaches of Boracay and the other, his first European cruise. What a lucky guy! Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Our boy, Mark Herras, has been traipsing not just all over the Philippine islands, but Europe, too, this summer. He may be single but his career and personal life just keep getting better!
Local Sights

When iGMA talked to Mark during his pocket presscon before the Holy Week, he was excited and said he couldn’t wait until vacation started. He’d been working hard the past few months and didn’t really have time for fun. And, for all the young stars, fun means going to Boracay for summer. The press, however, was surprised to learn that Mark had never been to the island.
“Hindi ba lagi pong busy? Last year, merong kaming outing ng mga barkada. Ngayon, kanya-kanya muna tayo, ha? Mag-eenjoy muna ako,” he said with his signature smile, obviously raring to go to the beach. But his next comment made everyone in the room groan: “Oo, dun tayo lahat. 168 tayo dun!”
168 is a members-only computer shop in Metro Manila where the likes of Mark, Rainier Castillo, and Mike Tan spend hours playing DOTA, a multiplayer computer game. The said shop also has a branch in Boracay.
Mark’s friends are also letting him bunk in with them in their hotel room in Boracay, since the young actor didn’t have enough time to look for his own accommodations. He will travel with buddies Paolo Contis, Isabel Oli, and Jason Abalos. Again, Mark appears to be very lucky, having such generous people around him.
Love Boat

Mark also excitedly shared with us his memories on his first European cruise. But this time, the trip was purely for business and not pleasure—specifically, for GMA Films’ upcoming romantic comedy,
I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust and Love You). I.T.A.L.Y. stars, along with Mark, Jolina Magdangal, Rufa Mae Quinto, and Dennis Trillo. The movie was shot on location in Italy on a real cruise liner that made stops in various European cities.
“Inaano kami na lahat dapat magtulong-tulong for this movie kasi wala nga po kami masyadong maraming kasama,” Mark said, talking about how lean the whole production crew was. “Parang 'yung Lighting Director namin, siya 'yung mag-aayos ng ilaw, siya [din] magbibibit ng ilaw. Parang ganun, isang tao, ang daming ginagawa.”
Even personal assistants weren’t allowed because of budget constraints, which meant that the stars had to lug around their own luggage the whole time. But no one complained; everyone understood what they needed to do.
Mark then talked about his character in the film: “Dito po kasi maaga po akong naulila, tapos may mga tumulong sa akin na tao para makapagtrabaho. So ako, in return, kaya ako nagtatrabaho ngayon ‘dun sa ship 'yun habang nagku-cruise, parang utang na loob ko for them. Nag-iipon ako para sa kanila…parang utang na loob nga po.”
It seems that an entirely new Mark will be seen on the silver screen, so watch out for I.T.A.L.Y. soon!
