She says she enjoys being bad. This fact may send shockwaves to her legions of loyal fans because Angelika dela Cruz is known to many as the "api" in her past shows, it came as a big surprise when she turned about and became the evil Via in Gilda Olvidado’s Babangon Ako at Dudurugin Kita. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. “I welcome the change. I don’t mind switching roles,” Angelika answers when asked if she minds her current kontrabida role. She continues, “as of now feeling ko na-perfect ko na ‘yung naaapi eh. Iyung on cue, alam ko na ang gagawin ko kapag sasampalin ako, sasabunutan, alam na alam ko na ‘yung technique para ‘di ako masaktan. Na-master ko na siya.” And with the reviews she has been getting, it seems that she is doing a great job. Does this mean that she is willing to do more character roles even though it may mean less of the spotlight on her? “Eto naman finifeel ko pa kasi it’s something new to me. Pero maganda rin ‘yung kapag nakaka-play ka ng iba-ibang role ‘coz it really brings out the actress in you.” Taking the Heat This really is a challenge for the young actress because she is not only playing a simple bad girl. She is reprising a role once played by the immortal Hilda Koronel. This adds pressure to Angelika but she takes it all in stride. “Hindi ako masyadong kabado kasi alam ko naman na hindi ko siya hihigitan. Of course, given na ‘yun, and hindi ko rin naman gagayahin. Gagawin ko rin ‘yung sarili kong style para hindi naman ako maging copy cat ‘di ba?” She also shares that she has had several chances to work with “Tita H.K.” (Hilda Koronel) and they are chummy chums. Not only is she a marvel to work with, Angelika thinks that Ms. Koronel is a great actress. Now that she has had several months to bond with the devilish Via in the primetime classic Babangon ako at Dudurugin Kita, Angelika says that she understands her character better. “Actually maganda ‘yung character ni Via eh, malaman. Iba yung Via sa movie [at] sa soap, kasi iniba nila eh, iniba nila ‘yung twist ng character so mas lalo siya nagiging malaman.” As a last note, iGMA asked Angelika if she will ever be friends with someone like her character Via? “Oo, she can be my friend pero mababatukan ko siya eh kasi ‘pag na-in love siya wala na lahat eh. Siya yung tipong kaibigan na sasabihan mo ng--Naku! Pasaway ka!” She says with a laugh coupled with a flash of her famous smile.
