GMA-7 has once again scored a big hit with the acquisition of airing rights to the popular game show Family Feud!
GMA-7 has once again scored a big hit with the acquisition of airing rights to the popular game show Family Feud. And, Richard Gomez is no less excited of hosting this worldwide hit show. Just check the survey! – Text by Erick Mataverde. Photos by Erick Mataverde and Mitch S. Mauricio.
It may seem surprising for some when Goma was chosen to host such a show but it did not come as a surprise for the Adonis of Philippine showbiz.
"Talagang matagal ko nang pangarap na mag-host ng isang game show, and finally yung dasal ko naibigay, it was answered," he states.
The Story Says…
And to know the pleasure behind Goma's elation, we can just look at
Family Feud's history as related by the host himself, "Bata pa lang tayo napapanood na natin itong game show na ‘to. And now nandito na siya sa Pilipinas, natutuwa kami and were very proud of this show.
Family Feud, marami talagang mag-e-enjoy kapag nanonood sila nito.

He continues, "Pag nag start na yung show makikita mo yung excitement eh. Nakaka-excite, pano you're given very little time to answer very simple questions. Dahil nasa TV ka minsan napre-pressure sila."
When asked about his experience, so far, during the dry-runs and tapings of
Family Feud, Goma expressed his delight.
"Alam mo yung pinaka-enjoy ko dito, a lot of questions dito hindi ko inaalam yung sagot so parang ako nasu-surprise din, so habang ako nagtatanong ako sa kanila deep inside my mind naghahanap din ako ng sagot parang nandun yung element of surprise."
He further adds, "Ang masarap dito kapag nakita nila may chance manalo yung isang family, nae-excite ka dahil kapag nakasagot sila ng isa lang, sila na yung mananalo [at makakalaro sa] jackpot round."
A Host's Job
However, joining the fun doesn't necessarily mean that the family contestants won't be nervous during the game. But Goma has made this his main concern as a responsible host.
"Ang ginagawa ko, prior to the start of the game kinakausap ko sila, I spend time with them para pag andun na ako sa harap nila hindi sila kakabahan. I just make sure na ine-explain ko sa mga family na ganito yung gagawin ko para alam nila, kasi maraming hindi nakakaintindi na pag nasa harap ka ng TV ang laki ng pressure talaga, so depende kung papaano mo sila maii-orient prior to the show, what could be the outcome of your talking to them," he narrates.
When it was commented that, during the initial tapings, he seemed to be hosting
Family Feud in his own style, he declares, "Alam mo sinabi ng Fremantle (where GMA-7 acquired
Family Feud's franchise rights), meroon silang template, but ang ayaw nila mawala yung personality nung host. The reason kung bakit kayo napili dito as host is because of your personality. Sabi ng taga Fremantle, kung ano yung pesonality mo yun yung gamitin mo for the show.
Family Feud."
Family Pride
Of course, this excitement extends to Goma's wife, Lucy Torres. He states "Lucy is very happy for me, kasi kaming dalawa gusto namin yung show na ito. Nung unang in-announce na sa akin nga in-assign yung
Family Feud, napasigaw ako, napatalon ako kung san man ako nun. Tinawagan ko kaagad si Lucy, sabi ko sa kanya 'Honey we got
Family Feud!'. Tuwang-tuwa kami pareho."
Let the Rivalries Begin!
In parting Richard sends out an invitation to all, "This coming Monday (October 13) ang simula ng
Family Feud kaya abangan nila. Very exciting!
Family Feud. Ang unang maglalaro ay si
Anjo Yllana and yung family niya versus the
Joey Marquez family, maganda! Exciting talaga!"
To those who made
Family Feud a part of their childhood memories, and those just new to the game, it would be a rivalry definitely worth watching.
