Why does Kiko Rustia look the way he does? Sino nga ba siya before he became the Kiko we know and love today? Text by Jason John S. Lim. Interview by Erick Mataverde. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Kiko Rustia is a sight to behold, everyone agrees.
"The people there are so amazing, [and] ang dami kong natutunan." The most important one being, ayon sa kanya, na na-impart sa kanya ng mga taga-Boracay is 'Be yourself, and the rest will follow.'
Three years din naging residente si Kiko ng Boracay. And during that time, maraming natutunan si Kiko na naging importanteng parte na ng buhay niya.

"Kasi [ang] mga tao sa Bora, gusto lang nila magpakatotoo ka. Express yourself," sabi niya. Mas appreciated daw ng mga tao doon ang pagpapaka-totoo. And being appreciated by these artistic people, Kiko only had this to say: "They bring out the best in you."
Maraming stories si
Kiko of how much he loves Boracay. He even says na gusto niyang bumalik doon.
"Ang reason kaya napabalik ako dito sa Manila was because the family needed an extra hand [sa business]," paliwanag niya. "And being the panganay, it's my responsibility to help. So, alam mo 'yun, parang I had to take the responsibility. So, carry lang. Eventually siguro 'pag magaan na, I still look forward to returning to Bora. Napakasarap ng feeling na kino-consider ka na ng mga locals as their own."
But it seems fate has a different plan for Kiko. And with the success of
Survivor Philippines and his subsequent signing up with GMA Artist Center—up in the air na ulit ang future ni
Kiko.
Pero, one thing is for sure, whatever happens in the future—part na ang fans niya ng future na 'yun. Speaking of which, here's his message to everyone who believed in him: "First of all, I'd like to thank them for believing, and like what I always say, keep the faith—the fight is not over yet. And, alam mo 'yun, kung baga sabi ko nga, the real challenges are not in
Survivor, but here in the real world.
"Dito natin masusubukan lahat ang pagka-Survivor talaga ng Pinoy so tuloy pa rin ang laban. And those who want to fight the fair fight with me, go! Magkapit-bisig tayo and let's make a difference. I really believe [the] time is now, that, 'yun nga, we need to step up and claim what is ours—which is, you know, a beautiful country, a beautiful race. Tayong Pilipino? Solid talaga."
