Kapuso actress Carmina Villarroel is set to star in horror movie Sunod, an official entry of Quantum films in the 44th edition of the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
The Sarap, 'Di Ba? host said the project was special to her since Sunod was her latest horror film after several years.
Sunod is the sole horror film among the eight official entries in this year's MMFF.
It follows the story of Olivia (Villarroel), a single mother seeking to afford the medical bills of her dying daughter by working as a call center agent of a sketchy business process outsourcing (BPO) company, where she experiences ghostly encounters.
Produced by TEN17P and directed by Carlo Ledesma, other cast members of the film are Mylene Dizon, Susan Africa, Kate Alejandrino, Rhed Bustamante, Krystal Brimmer, and Freddie Webb.
Sunod replaced Kris Aquino's movie entry (K)Ampon, after the latter film was disqualified by the MMFF Executive Committee for filing its request of change of lead actor beyond the July 30, 2019 deadline.
The annual Parade of Stars is scheduled on December 22, and will be hosted by the city of Taguig.
